[Beijing, November 14, 2019] Volkswagen Group China was recognized with the Corporate Silver Award at the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Dream Asia Awards, part of the AFC Social Responsibility Conference 2019 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. The AFC Dream Asia Social Responsibility Awards commend national and regional football associations, non-governmental organizations, corporates and individuals out of a competitive field that have made outstanding contributions through CSR initiatives to inspire hope with the power and passion of football. Winning this award is a validation of the Volkswagen Group China’s continuous efforts to promote the holistic, sustainable development of China’s youth football for players and coaches. Since 2015, in 12 training centers across China, its program has positively impacted 365 coaches and 5,000 junior football players, with indirect benefits to 48,000 members of its communities.

“We are honored that our Junior Football Program has won this recognition. ‘Football is More than a Match’ – in this spirit, we instill important values within China’s youth that are key to their growth, on and off the field," said Dr. Stephan Wöllenstein, CEO of Volkswagen Group China, “Equipped with the world’s best football resources, we provide professional support for young players and their coaches in China. This not only strengthens the cultural relationship between China and Germany, but positively empowers young generations for years to come.”

Volkswagen Group China’s CSR efforts focus on China’s future generations and their growth. Together with the China Sports Foundation and Chinese Football Association, through its Zhixing CSR Fund, Volkswagen Group China aims to consistently improve social impact and professional training with world-class resources developed in partnership with Vfl Wolfsburg, a top German football club. It also promotes healthy lifestyles for Chinese youth with an emphasis on injury prevention and nutrition.

As a key milestone of the program, the “CSR Report of the Volkswagen Junior Football Program” was published in 2019, which systematically analyzes its five years of youth football program development, and how they improve public welfare. Proof points include improved youth football skills and training systems, and a larger talent reserve, thanks to growing core programs such as Volkswagen Junior Football Summer Camp, Volkswagen Junior Football Summer Camp in Germany, and the Volkswagen Junior Football Train-the-Trainer Program.

In addition, in 2019, the Volkswagen brand became an official sponsor of the German Football Association, the German national team and the main sponsor of the UEFA Euro 2020, and entered a partnership with the United States Soccer Federation, promoting football across the world.
